Advising Services for Online Students

Kristen Dahl is the counselor available to distance learning students who are currently enrolled or considering enrollment in courses at the College of Lake County. Kristen can be reached by e-mail, phone or in person.

When to Meet With a Counselor
Students meet with a counselor if they are:

  • undecided on a major,
  • seeking transfer information to another school,
  • in need of graduation planning,
  • concerned with other academic issues

Students with an intended major area can contact a faculty member in the appropriate division. All full-time faculty members are academic advisors and are available during school terms. For information on how to contact a faculty advisor, call the appropriate division office listed below. Division offices are located on the Grayslake Campus.

Advisement Responsibilities:

Advisement Responsibilities of Counselors & Academic Advisors

Academic Advisors & Counselors help students with long-term and short-term academic planning, assist students in developing a course schedule, provide information about programs of study, explain CLC graduation requirements and college policies, and refer students to other college staff and services.

Advisement Responsibilities of Students

Students are responsible for for the advisement session, i.e. being familiar with the information in the CLC catalog and graduation requirements, reviewing the course schedule each semester, having an idea of the courses they plan to take, and being ready to discuss their interests and/or goals. Students who have unclear educational goals have the responsibility to seek assistance from a counselor to develop goals.
