The college is implementing a new print management system in the library. This new system will allow us to deliver higher quality service, encourage responsible printing, and reduce waste.
Learn how to print your documents in 3 simple steps
- Submit your document for printing
(Tip: Don't forget to save your work before you begin). Print a document the same way you normally would. You will be prompted to enter a username to identify your job so that you can pick it up later at the release station. We suggest that you use your student or staff login name as your username to ensure that it will be unique. Tip - if you use the same username to identify all of your documents they will be listed together at the release station.
- Go to the release station and log in
When you are ready to pick up your documents, go to the release station located near the printers. Log in to the release station with the username you created in step 1.
- Select and print your document(s)
All of the documents that are associated with your username will be displayed on the release station. Make sure to check the documents for accuracy - Is it your document? Is it the correct number of pages? etc.
- Check the box next to one or more documents to send them to the printer.
- Click the Print button
- Pick up your documents from the printer tray.
F.A.Q
- How does the system work? Instead of sending your print jobs directly to the printer, the print management system sends your document to a server and stores it there. You use a special computer, called a release station, to connect to the server where your documents are stored and send them to the printer. The release station computer is located next to the printers in the lab. This added step will allow you to make sure you know exactly what you are printing before the document prints. It will also allow you to make one trip to the printer instead of several during your stay in the lab.
- Is there a charge for printing? Not at this time.
- How long will my print jobs stay in the system? Print jobs stay in the system for two hours. If you have not printed your documents in that time they will be deleted from the print station.
- Do I have to print out one document at a time? No, to save trips to the release station you should submit several documents to the printer and then print them all at once. TIP: If you use the same ID for all of the documents you print during your session it will be easier to locate them when you log into the release station.
- How do I print more than one page per sheet in Adobe PDF documents? See our guide for more detailed instructions.
- What do I do if I decide I don't want to print the document
You have two options. First, you can just leave the document on the print management server and let it expire on its own after two hours. Or, you can go to the release station computer, place a checkmark next to the document you no longer wish to print, then click on the Delete button.
- What is a release station? A release station is a computer located next to the printers. You will need to log in to this computer in order to complete your print job. After you log in to the release station (with the username you created in step 1 above) you will be able to select which documents you would like to transfer from the server to the printer.
