New to Instant Messaging? Instant Messaging, or IM, allows you to exchange real time text messages with other IM users via the Internet. To send and receive messages you need a computer or web enabled device (cell phone, PDA, etc.), a network connection, instant messaging software and a screen name (free through AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, and ICQ). Get Started! You can download software and sign up for an account and get more information from the following IM service websites:
IM from Anywhere All of the services listed above also have web based versions of their instant messaging software. You can use these web based versions to access your instant messaging account from any computer with access to the internet without the need to download and install the software. You can also use a free online tool called Meebo to connect to multiple services at the same time (handy if you use more than one chat service to keep in touch with friends and family). Need help getting started with AOL? We have created a step-by-step guide to help walk you through signing up for a screen name and using AIM Express for the first time.
CLC IM Service Hours Our librarians are available to chat during regular library hours. If you prefer, you may call our Reference desk at (847) 543-2071 or email your questions to library@clcillinois.edu. Please allow 24 to 72 hours for a reply to emails due to heavy volume. |
