Kathy Weaver &
Mary Seyfarth:
Whimsical Musings
May 23 – July 3, 2008
Reception: Friday, May 23, 7-9 pm
About the Show
Kathy Weaver presents fiberworks and paintings that are at an intersection between technology and art. Weaver will display a series of colorful quilts that humorously depict robots engaged in human activities. There is a playful incongruity between the variety of soft materials that compose the quilts and their metalic, cyborg subjects. The robots operate as actors in a world where the boundary between automation and humanity shifts. Weaver has exhibited her works both nationally and internationally.
Mary Seyfarth will display ceramic works as well as small sculptures that combine various metals with ceramic elements. Seyfarth's works also have humorous undercurrents. As a nationally exhibited potter and sculpter, Seyfarth is known for her use of a special purple clay found only in Yixing, China. Mary Seyfarth is the chairperson of the Ceramics Department at Columbia College.
Both artists reside in Lake County, Illinois.
